Dragon Camp

Challenge Description

Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology is hosting Dragon Camp for the second time as part of its leading role in Egypt in promoting science and technology. E-JUST is pursuing Egypt’s Vision 2030, thus it chose E- Vehicles as the theme for this year's competition.

The challenge this year aims to make electric cars hold a substantial share of the car market. There are six challenges to overcome:

1. customer acceptance
2. charging infrastructure
3. chip shortages
4. battery shortages
5. reliance on rare earth materials
6. the ability to have multiple owners.

Teams are expected to have multi-disciplinary skill sets, such as mechanical, electrical, computer and software engineering, communications, business, and project management to emulate the real-world experience of solving EV industry challenges. Having a diverse team spanning these skills will allow a team to be successful in the competition and prepare more students for careers in the E-mobility sector.

Eligibility

Who is eligible to apply for the Camp:

1. Undergraduate students affiliated to Egyptian universities (Engineering and Business).
2. Postgraduate students affiliated to Egyptian universities (Engineering and Business).
3. A team can be from both category lists in 1 and 2.

General Instructions:

1. Application should be done through the registration form.
2. Only teams are allowed to participate, no individual participation is allowed.
3. To participate, the team must have an idea written in 1 paragraph to explain:
   1. the idea
   2. novelty
   3. past work; i.e. past research related to your idea.

Criteria

Originality of idea. Does the idea or project show creative thinking? Does it stand out from the crowd? Is this idea unique and original? Are there similar solutions for this market? Perhaps this innovation is an alternative to existing solutions or an evolution of an existing solution?

Quality of presentation. We will send support material to all registered teams to give ideas on how to conduct commercialization.

Clarity of idea. Is the project or idea clearly described? Is the purpose clear? How does the work demonstrate that the team has thoroughly understood the area where they have chosen to work? Understanding of the potential market. Have they clearly identified the market for this idea? Is it a mass or niche market? Who would use it? Who will benefit? What steps did they take to understand people’s needs and the way their innovation could make a difference? Are there any competitive alternatives to their approach? Have they explained why their approach is needed? Use of industry experts. How did they make use of expert help from industry or academia? Who did they contact and what did they ask them to do? How did they use their advice to improve, develop or change their idea? Do they have plans to continue the relationship with the partners? Skill and thoroughness. How well is the project or idea executed? How much effort has been made to develop the idea? What is the technical quality of the execution of the idea or project? Is it doable? How practical is it to take this innovation to the next level? Are there major technology or market dependencies that prevent this innovation from being developed into a prototype or achieving production status? What did the team learn from their experience? Has it changed their thinking in any way? Have they learnt more about a particular area of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math? Have they been inspired?

Prizes

• 1st prize: 10 000 EGP
• 2nd prize: 7 500 EGP
• 3rd prize: 5000 EGP
• 4th prize: 2500 EGP

Upon completion of the Camp, students will receive a certificate of completion regarding training in entrepreneurship related to E- Vehicles.
